At Waffle Labs, we’re building foundation models for numbers. We’re looking for a Staff Research Scientist to join our Boston-based team. In this role, you’ll help define the core technical path of LQMs, designing novel algorithms and frameworks that push the frontier of machine learning on structured data. You’ll work closely with other researchers and engineers to turn research into production-ready systems, shaping both our theory and our product.
Responsibilities:
Lead research efforts at the intersection of machine learning and numerical data representation, focused on bridging disconnected datasets via latent structure.
Design and implement novel algorithms for structured data imputation, missing value reasoning, and robust inference from sparse observations.
Prototype, validate, and iterate on scalable systems in Python for real-world deployment.
Collaborate closely with engineers and domain experts to translate theory into production-ready solutions.
Basic Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Machine Learning, Operations Research, Applied Mathematics, or a related field is a must.
Deep expertise in statistical modeling, supervised/unsupervised learning, and optimization techniques.
Expert-level proficiency in Python and the data science ecosystem (NumPy, Pandas, PyTorch, etc.).
Experience with missing data imputation, Bayesian methods, or probabilistic programming frameworks is a strong plus.
Demonstrated ability to drive research agendas and deliver technical innovations independently.
Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Highly motivated and intellectually curious.
Must be authorized to work in the United States, no visa sponsorship.

Responsibilities:
Own the full enterprise revenue motion — from pipeline strategy through contract execution — targeting Fortune 500 and high-growth technology companies
Drive 7-figure and multi-year contract negotiations with sophisticated procurement, legal, and executive stakeholders
Partner closely with Product and Engineering to translate customer needs into roadmap priorities and winning proposals
Build and refine sales playbooks, pricing frameworks, and competitive positioning strategies
Report directly to the CEO and Chief Data Scientist with full visibility into company strategy
Basic Qualifications:
You are a doer.
7+ years of enterprise sales experience, including 3+ years in a leadership role at an AI, ML, or data infrastructure company
Demonstrated track record of closing multiple $1M+ contracts with Fortune 500 or major public-sector organizations
Prior experience selling data annotation, synthetic data, or ML training data products
Deep functional understanding of machine learning workflows — model training, data pipelines, MLOps, and the infrastructure that supports them
Ability to engage credibly at the CTO, VP of AI/ML, and Chief Data Officer level
Experience navigating long, complex sales cycles (6–18 months) with multiple stakeholders and procurement gatekeepers
Strong analytical instincts — you're comfortable in CRM and building your own pipeline forecasts
This is a Boston-based position.

Relationships within AI/ML teams at major cloud providers, financial institutions, and/or retail
